ICL Tournament Rules:

  • Game Overview:
    • 1.1 Cornhole is a popular game generally played with two teams, each consisting of two players. There are several variations such as: Singles, Doubles, CoEd, Quads, and Crew Cup., among others.

    • 1.2 The objective of the game is to score points by throwing resin or corn filled bags onto a raised platform with a hole in it. Corn filled bags are not permitted at ICL events.

    • 1.3 The game is played until one team reaches or exceeds 21 points.

  • Equipment:
    • 2.1 Cornhole Boards:

    • 2.1.1 Two cornhole boards are required for a game, each measuring 2 feet wide by 4 feet long.

    • 2.1.2 The boards should have a 6-inch hole centered 9 inches from the top.

    • 2.2 Bags:

    • 2.2.1 Each team should have four bags of one color. In the event of two teams having identical colored bags preceding a scheduled seeded match, the higher seed team will have the option of forcing the opposing team to change bags, as well as choice of side and have the first throw to begin the game. If an event is unseeded, teams may choose to decide bag choice by a reasonable method (ie: spin a bag, coin flip, etc.). The team forced to change bags will have a choice of side and throw the first bag to begin play.

    • 2.2.2 The standard bag sizes may range from 5 3/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches up to 6 ¼ inches by 6 ¼ inches and should weigh between 15.75 and 16.25 ounces. Each bag shall not be less than 1 inch in thickness at its narrowest point.

  • Setup:
    • 3.1 Place the boards 27 feet apart from front edge to front edge.

    • 3.2 Both teams should stand on the same side of their respective boards.

    • 3.3 A foul line should be marked on the ground, parallel to the boards, and 27 feet from the front of each board. If there is no foul line in place, the front edge of the board IS the foul line, and should not be crossed until the bag has been fully released from the players hand. (see: Foot Fault - Section 5.1)

  • Gameplay:
    • 4.1 Determining the Team that Starts:

      • 4.1.1 In a seeded event, the higher seed will have the choice of bags, side, and first throw to begin a match. In an unseeded event, a coin toss or any fair method may be used to determine which team starts the game. Any team winning the toss may also choose to “defer” to the opponent, at which point, the team that lost the toss will start the game.

    • 4.2 Pitching the Bags:

      • 4.2.1 Each team takes alternating turns throwing their bags from their respective side.

      • 4.2.2 The bags must be pitched towards the opposing end and released without crossing the baseline.

      • 4.2.3 The opposing team should remain behind the opposite board while a player is throwing.

      • 4.2.4 The round (or frame) is finished after each team has thrown all four bags without fouling.

    • 4.3 Scoring:

      • 4.3.1 A bag that goes through the hole without touching the ground scores three points and is called a "Cornhole."

      • 4.3.2 A bag that lands on the board and stays on the board at the end of the frame scores one point.

      • 4.3.3 Bags that hit the ground or bounce off the board are considered foul and do not score any points.

    • 4.4 Canceling Out:

      • 4.4.1 Only one team can score points per frame.

      • 4.4.2 If both teams have bags on the board or in the hole, the points cancel out and no score is awarded for that frame. (IE: Player one has 3 bags in the hole and one bag on the board for a total of 10 points. Player 2 has 2 bags in the hole and 2 bags on the board for a score of 8 points. The net total is 10-8 for 2 points awarded to player 1).

    • 4.5 Counting Points:

      • 4.5.1 After each frame, the points are counted and added to the team's score.

      • 4.5.2 The team that scored in the previous frame throws first in the next frame.

    • 4.6 Winning the Game:

      • 4.6.1 The game is won by the team that reaches or exceeds 21 points.

  • Foul and Penalty Rules:
    • 5.1 Foot Fault:

      • 5.1.1 A foot fault occurs when a player's foot is past the foul line while throwing. Players MUST be completely behind the foul line or leading edge of the board BEFORE pitching. A player may cross a foul line while pitching a bag if the bag is released before the player's lead foot touches the ground, AND the player was behind the line or edge of the board before beginning the pitch.

      • 5.1.2 Foot faults will result in the thrown bag being removed from play and no points scored for that bag. Repeated fouls may result in forfeiture of a match and/or disqualification from an event.

    • 5.2 Distraction:

      • 5.2.1 Players should not intentionally distract or interfere with the opposing team's throws.

      • 5.2.2 The opposing team can request a redo if they feel they were distracted or interfered with at the discretion of an ICL Board Member.

  • 6.0 Unsportsmanlike Conduct:
    • 6.1 Unsportsmanlike conduct, including offensive language or aggressive behavior, is not tolerated and can result in disqualification.

    • 6.2 Players should maintain a respectful and friendly atmosphere throughout the tournament.

Note: These rules provide a basic framework for a cornhole tournament. Tournament organizers may modify or add additional rules at their discretion.
